Busy, Busy, Busy...

I have been so busy this last week. First I made this outfit for a baby shower on Saturday.

Then I was busy sewing 6 patriotic dresses/tops. Why 6 of them? I thought you might ask that. When I bought the fabric I didn't really have a plan for it so I bought way too much. I just kept sewing until I ran out of fabric.

I really like how they turned out. The pattern had three ruffles but I left off the third one so that it would be more like a top. The only problem is that I can't find white leggings to go with it. If anybody knows where I can find some please let me know.

In addition to sewing we also went to lots of cookouts and parties this weekend.

We drank juice...

Blew bubbles...

Played hide and seek...

Splashed in the water...

Sat in the grass...

And looked pretty...

I hope everyone else had a great week.

Olivia loves playing in her room. She does really well playing independently. She loves to sit on her couch and read books.

She also likes to "love" her baby.

Often we will hear her clapping and singing "eieio".

Then Ella might walk in the room to play awhile and Olivia lights up.

Soon Ella starts to invade Olivia's personal space.

Which usually results in a little hair pulling.

And then some "I'm sorry" hugs.

Ella doesn't usually want to play too long. Which leaves Olivia feeling...well, like this...

Father's Day & Sewing

We had a good Father's Day today. Ella took Ken to see Toy Story 3, then we went to my parents house for a late lunch. After lunch we went shopping and Ken picked out a pair of shoes and 2 polo's for his gift. Happy Father's Day Ken, you are a great dad and husband!

I have not started the 4th of July outfits yet, but I have been busy working on other things. I made matching outfits for Ella and Olivia the other day. I didn't take pictures yet but I will try to soon.

Several months ago I was looking on Etsy at some camera strap covers. They were so cute, but I didn't want to pay for one when I knew I could make one myself.

This is my old plain strap...

And this is my new pretty strap cover...

I love these flowers. I found a great tutorial here on how to make them. So easy!

I had most of the supplies I needed on hand. I used fabric that was left from the baby blanket that I made. So the whole project cost me about 50 cents (the cost of 2 sheets of felt)!

Now this is what my kitchen table looks like. I am not very good at cleaning as I go. If you look very closely you can still see the red, white, and blue fabric waiting to be cut and sewn! Maybe tomorrow.

Friday Fun & 13 Months

This morning we went to one of my favorite places...JoAnn's. Ella and I picked out these fabrics to make patriotic dresses for the 4th of July. I like what we chose because even though it is red, white and blue, it doesn't have anything on it that screams 4th of July so they can wear it more than once. I am thinking about a three tier dress with ruffles for Ella and a top and capri's for Olivia, but I might change my mind.

Then we met daddy for lunch at Chick-Fil-A.

Next we headed to a local splash park for some water fun. They both had the best time.

Olivia walked right into a stream of water. She about jumped out of her skin.

Then she thought it was funny.

Some little girls had some water balloons that Ella had been secretly wanting. They shared one with her and she was thrilled. Once she got water in it she went around asking people if she could throw it at them. Someone finally said yes. However, the balloon bounced off the girl and busted on the ground. Oh well.

Olivia is 13 months old today. She is walking everywhere. She can say lots of words including thank you, mom, dad, Ella, Elmo, dog, and hi. She also loves the song "Old McDonald" and will sing "eieio" at the right time. She can hold up one finger when you ask her how old she is. She is learning some animal sounds and can point to a dog and say "dog" and then bark. She can also do this for duck, but her quack sounds a little scary (it's more like a roar really). She will shake her head yes or no when you ask her a question. Olivia's favorite foods right now are steamed carrots, corn, green beans, yogurt, bananas, raisins, spaghetti, and of course ice cream. If she sees someone with ice cream she immediately walks over to them and starts pointing and saying "that". It is so funny. She is growing so quickly. It is hard to believe that she is a toddler!

What Does It Mean?

I wanted to title this post "She's Bringing Sexy Back", but Ken wouldn't let me.

That's right, my little girl asked me what sexy meant. Now that she can read pretty much everything, her world has been opened to new things that she hasn't heard before. I am still not sure where she saw that word but she did tell me that she called somebody sexy today. I asked her what she thought it meant and she said that it meant pretty. I told her she was kinda right, but that it wasn't appropriate for her to say. She wanted to know if she could say it when she is a teenager. I told her that she wasn't ever allowed to say it again :) We also had a nice talk about only saying words that we know the meaning of.

I am a little surprised (and happy) that she came to me. She has always been terrified of saying anything that I may think is a "bad" word. When she was 3 or so, I would tell her if she said ugly words I would wash her mouth out with soap. On one occasion she wanted to know what kind of soap I would use (liquid or bar). She was debating if saying her chosen word would be worth it depending on which soap I would use. Of course I told her that I would use both kinds, and we have never really had a problem with ugly words. (By bad words and ugly words I am talking about stupid, shut up, butt and so forth... nothing terrible...just not allowed in our house.) And for the record I have never put soap in her mouth!

Pool Time

We have been enjoying some pool time the last couple of days, thanks to some friends who have so kindly shared their pool with us. Ella has always enjoyed swimming. Here is a look back at some of her previous swimming adventures. Sorry about the poor quality, they are pictures of pictures, and some are even snapped from the pages of her scrapbook.

She has always done well in the water. She has never been scared to get her face wet, jump off the diving board, or do back flips in the water. She has been able to swim in the shallow end without floats for a few years now, but still used her floats often.

Well not anymore. Ella can officially swim all by herself. Saturday she decided to try to swim in the deep end without her floats. With her daddy and I close by she jumped off the diving board and swam all the way to the end of the pool by herself! She didn't put the floats on the rest of the day. We are so proud of her new skills.

Olivia has been enjoying the water as well.

Although she gets tired a lot quicker than Ella does.

Can I Get A Drum Roll Please?

One of the little girls in my class was playing with drumsticks the other day. She had a good beat going, tapping her foot, moving her body, and hitting the sticks together. She added hitting the sticks on the back of a chair and she was really rockin. I asked her if she knew what a drum roll was. She said "yeah" and proceeded to lay the drumsticks on the ground and roll them. Dee (my co-teacher) and I about died laughing. I guess she was right, she did know what a drum roll was.

She's A Big Girl Now

The other day Olivia finally graduated to a forward facing car seat.

She was a little confused at first.

But then she started to kind of like it!

And then she decided that facing forward was really great and was something worth clapping about!

Of course Ella wanted to have her picture taken in her seat too.

Happy Birthday Sara!

Our good friends Jason and Natalie (and Katelyn) welcomed a new baby girl into their family today. Sara was born this afternoon and we couldn't wait to go visit them. She is so cute and has the prettiest fingernails I have ever seen on a baby! Congratulations Jason and Natalie.
