Not Much To Talk About

It has been a pretty boring week around here. I don't have much to talk about. I took Ella and her friend Emily to see Ramona and Beezus today. It was very good.

I have also been busy gathering/making things for Ella's birthday party. I got the invitations mailed and finally settled on fabric for a birthday outfit and have been sewing a little.

My birthday was yesterday. I am now 28. Ken got me a new microwave (the kind that goes above the stove) and my friend Dee gave me a gift card to Muddy's (a local bakery). Of course we had to go last night. The cupcakes were yummy! Thanks Dee.

What has everyone else been up too?

1st Grade

Ella and Ken were talking yesterday about 1st grade. Ella said that she was a little bit worried that kids might make fun of her. Ken asked her why and she said "uh, have you seen these clothes I wear?"

We are going to have fun getting dressed this school year!

A New Look

When I got online today I had a little message saying that my blog background was being removed (something about updating servers). I needed to change things up anyway, so it was perfect timing.

I get very anxious when I am trying to pick a new background.

I am not sure why. I can pick a paint color for any room of my house in a matter of minutes, but a background for a blog that is seen by only a handful of people, that takes all night.

I am also well aware that you are probably tired of seeing the pictures that I chose for my new header. Seriously, I used them in our hallway, for Olivia's 14 month update and now my header. Frankly, I have just been too lazy and unmotivated to take new pictures, so these will have to work for now.

I am not sure if I am totally satisfied with the way things look yet, so it may change in the next few days. Or not... remember I am lazy and unmotivated!

We're In For It

Last night Ella informed me that she wants a cell phone for her birthday...a real one! She said that she could call anybody she wants whenever she wants. She also said it would make her popular!

Rest assured she will not be getting a cell phone for her 6th birthday.

I guess she won't be popular.

I can live with that.

14 Months

Olivia is 14 months old today.

She is still a very happy girl. She is also very busy and messy. I don't think she can have fun unless every toy, plastic bowl and shoe is thrown all over the house. This is a big change because Ella always liked things neat and tidy. Olivia still takes 2 good naps a day and sleeps from about 8:30 until about 7:00. She is running all over the place and does not like to be strapped into a shopping cart or stroller. She doesn't mind the high chair because she loves to eat. She will go to the fridge or the cabinet that we keep snacks in and say "eee eee". She likes to eat pretty much anything, but pineapple and grapes are her newest favorites. She really likes to play in Ella's room (which is okay with Ella until she makes a mess). She still likes Elmo, despite all of our attempts, but she is also growing fond of Barney, which I can handle.

Here is a look back.

Popsicles

Olivia had her first popsicle the other day. Well, it wasn't her real first popsicle, but it was the first one that she actually liked.

Yesterday Ella and I were working on some math. I was sitting close to her trying to explain how to add bigger numbers like 23 + 17. The following conversation took place.
Ella: Are you close to my ear?
Me: Yes.
Ella: Are you really close to my ear?
Me: Yes.
Ella: Are you really, really close to my ear?
Me: I guess.
Ella: Then get back I don't want to catch an ear infection.

That is classic Ella. Terrified of germs and pretty much anything that might require a doctor visit. One of her latest fears involves milk... if I don't drink enough milk I will shrink when I get old, does it hurt to shrink, I don't want to shrink but the milk might be old and make my tummy hurt, did Granny Fanny shrink when she got old, I miss Granny Fanny, why did she have to die, she should have lived until she was 100 (crying hysterically), I wish I could have seen her one last time...and it goes on and on.

A Little Something For The Hall

After I painted the hall I didn't want to hang up the framed pictures that were there before. I also didn't want to spend a lot of money and I knew that I wanted to use black and white pictures. So we went out in the front yard and took a few pictures.

Then I bought 3 canvases and painted them "khaki tan". Next I arranged my pictures on the canvases (I had some printed 11x14, 5x7 and 4x6), cut out the word "sisters" with my Cricut (I absolutely love my Cricut), used a little Mod Podge, and ended up with this.

Now I need something for the other wall. Any ideas?

Painting Our Hallway

Yesterday I had to go to an oral surgeon to get a tooth extracted. It was a tooth that I had a root canal on about 10 years ago that never was quite right. The root canal was a horrible experience and worsened my fear of dentist. Since then I have switched dentist to someone that I really like! He is fixing all the previous work that was not done correctly. He referred me to an oral surgeon to just go ahead and pull this tooth. Me being the chicken that I am requested to be put to sleep for the simple procedure. The nice oral surgeon also gave me a Valium to take prior to the visit. Boy did that ever work. That thing made me feel so funny. The tooth was removed, no problem.

After I took a little nap at home I woke up thinking that I should paint our hallway. Picking paint colors and painting might not be the best thing to do after taking Valium, being put to sleep, and taking Lortab.

Hallway Before:

Hallway After:

But I still like the colors today and it was probably one of my neater paint jobs. So I guess taking drugs + being put to sleep = home improvement for me.

This Time Last Year

Here are the pictures from last year I was talking about.

Ella looks like a baby.

And Olivia was a baby.

When I was looking through these pictures I was reminded of something funny that Ella said.

When we were on our way to Churchill Downs last year Ella saw this...

and said "That's where we are going. I see the horse".

Not quite!

Sorry, these pictures aren't that great. I had just gotten my camera and lens and I was still learning how to use them.

I guess I am still learning how to use them.

Probably always will be.

Big Visit

We made it back home this afternoon from our big visit with family. I had intended to post while we were at my grandparents house, but I was having trouble keeping an Internet connection. So instead you get one giant post.

My grandparents church always puts on a big fireworks show each 4th of July. This year was no different. They had lots of food, inflatables, puppet shows, and of course fireworks.

Ella has been having some breathing problems the last few days so she had to sit in the car to watch the fireworks. The smoke was just too much for her. Olivia loved the fireworks and kept pointing at them... until she lost interest and fell asleep.

We also visited the Louisville Slugger Bat Factory and Museum.
(Please excuse the odd look on Ella's face, she had just turned to give me a hug and ran right into my camera and the fact that she was terrified of the Babe Ruth statue I put her next to.) That's my sister in the picture with Ella.

Olivia loved the little bats they give you at the end of the tour, but you better stay out of her way. Those things may be small but they still hurt.

I was trying to kiss Olivia on her cheek, but she turned just in time to lick me, nice!

On Sunday we went to Churchill Downs to watch the horse races. My aunt's company has a suite and she was able to get tickets for everyone.

My grandad gave all the kids $2 to "vote" on a horse, as Ella says. Ella actually picked a winning horse (Hula) and won $6.20. Then she picked Mykindacandy (go figure) and won $3.80.

Then we went down to the Junior Jockey Club and played Bingo. Yeah, they really push the gambling on them when they are young. She did win a stuffed horse.

I was looking at pictures that I took this time last year and it is amazing how much Ella and Olivia have changed in a year. Maybe I will post some of those pictures later this week.
