Fun In The Sun

Today we headed to Ripley, TN for some swimming fun with some of our buddies. The kids had such a good time. They were able to go down the water slides lots and lots of times. Olivia even went down it! I didn't get many pictures from the day because we were really busy keeping up with Olivia. That girl just goes and goes and goes.

Oh and today is my birthday! I have one more year till the big 3 0, unlike some of my friends :)

Olivia Funnies

This girl is hilarious.

She acts all sweet and innocent at school and at church, but she is wild, loud and destructive when she is with us.

For example we were doing a little shopping last week and Olivia said that she had to go potty. I ran her into a Hallmark store to see if we could use their restroom. We had to wait our turn. So what do you think Olivia does?

She breaks something.

Yes, I had to buy a broken item from Hallmark. They were nice enough to sell it to me at half price. The lady asked me if I would like it wrapped up. Ha! No please just throw it away!

The other night she was telling Ken all of her friends names. Her list went something like this, Drew's my friend, Samantha's my friend, Emerson's my friend. Ken said is daddy your friend? She said "no you a big boy".

Chick-Fil-A is starting to confuse her.

When looking at a book with my mom Olivia pointed to a cow and said chicken. My mom said no that's a cow. Olivia said no Chick-Fil-A.

She has known her animals for about a year now.

She is still calling the cow a chicken. She laughs hysterically when she does it.

When she gets into trouble she says "I'll be nice, I'll be nice".

She is rarely nice afterwards :)

Her favorite movie right now is "Starstruck". It's a Disney movie, but it is not a cartoon. It's about a rock star who falls in love with a regular girl.

I have no idea why a 2 year old would want to watch this, but she does. She asks to watch it from the moment she wakes up till she goes to bed.

She even sings some of the songs and tries to dance.

When we get home everyday, she runs to the door, spreads her legs as far as she can and says "nope, nope, nope"

She thinks she can keep us from getting in the house.

We always manage to get in, even if we have to step over her.

She laughs hysterically at this too!

Keeping Cool

It is so hot here.

Like can't breathe when you step outside hot.

I took Ella and Olivia to a local sprinkler park today. They had a good time playing and running around, but even being wet it was still just too hot to be outside very long. We stayed for about an hour and then headed back home to the air conditioning.

Our Big Project

When we first moved in our house we were less than thrilled with the placement of the washing machine and dryer. They were in the kitchen on separate walls. The washing machine was behind the door leading to the carport and the dryer was around the corner in front of a window. We have always talked about knocking out the wall behind the washing machine and turning the storage room (which was on the other side of the wall) into a laundry room.

We only had one thing standing in the way of our new laundry room.

Ken and I are not handy AT ALL!

I am creative, can sew and take a decent picture, but I am not skilled in saws and hammers. Ken is good at sports and organization, but I wouldn't trust him with electrical work or knocking down a wall without supervision.

Lucky for us we have a great friend named Jason who can do just about anything. He also happens to have a great wife named Natalie that let us borrow him MANY nights and weekends.

We started the process months and months ago.

This is what the washing machine looked like before we started.

Here is a run down of everything that we (Jason, Ken, my dad and me) did.
Move the electrical box
Move the hot water heater to the attic
Redo the plumbing
Change the existing door
Sheetrock and mud (oh how I hate sheetrock)
Continue the kitchen tile into the new room
Trim work

That may not seem like a lot when you type it in a list, but let me tell you it took forever and you know nothing is as simple as it should be.

Oh yeah, while we worked on the project I couldn't use my washing machine.

But it was all worth it and I couldn't be happier.

Here are some in progress pictures...

And this is my laundry room today. We bought the stacking washing machine and dryer back in November, but didn't stack it until we moved it in here. The pictures aren't the best.

We finished the laundry room like 2 days before Olivia's party (remember how I almost didn't get everything done, this was why).

As happy as I was with my new laundry room, there was still a project that I wanted to tackle.

Painting our kitchen cabinets.

And I really wanted to do it before Olivia's party.

That didn't happen.

We did however start it a few weeks ago.

Here are the lovely cabinets after we took down the doors and removed the hardware.

After painting the cabinets. One coat primer, 3 coats paint and primer in one, sanding between coats. We decided not to paint the inside.

Some might say it looks tacky or unfinished this way.

I'm calling it "custom".

We did paint both sides of the doors. One coat primer, 2 coats paint and primer in one, sanding between coats.

Then wait 5 days, flip and repeat.

After five more days they were ready to be hung.

Olivia liked helping my dad put on the new hardware.

Here are the finished cabinets...

Looking into my new laundry room. This is where the washing machine use to be.

When we removed the wall, the cabinet that remained was very damaged on the side. We had a great idea of cutting a piece of sheet metal to fit the side of the cabinet and then frame it out with some of the leftover quarter round. It serves as a little magnet board!

The view looking from the laundry room.

I finally took down Olivia's party decorations.

Last Night.

I also changed the fabric on the cork boards and changed our brown curtains to black.

We also rescued this bench from our neighbors trash.

I saw it thrown over their fence and had Ken go ask if they were throwing it away. They were so we snagged it.

All it needed were a few nails, thank you Jason.

I told you we are not handy.

We seriously tried like 4 times to put a nail in and we couldn't do it.

I also painted it black from the leftover paint we used on our front doors.

I really love it, especially since it was FREE!

So there you have it, our big project. I think I will go back to sewing and taking pictures now.

Happy Fourth

As you know we spent a few days at my grandparents house. Their church always puts on a big fireworks show complete with food, bounce houses, puppet shows, and sno cones. We had a good time and the weather was perfect!

I know, they wore these tops last year, but I just didn't get around to making anything new and they still fit.

I won't be winning mother of the year.

We also hung out by their pool a lot!

Isn't Olivia's swimsuit so cute. It took a little while for Ken to decide that he liked it.

Ella was too busy swimming to take a bunch of pictures.

I hope everyone else had a fun and safe Fourth of July.
